My Mission
Skilled Hands and an Open Heart. It is my mission to provide you with deep, attentive touch therapy that actively engages you in your healing and catalyzes you toward health and well-being. Together we will work towards a more complete body image. This will provide you greater access to information from your body with fewer areas of 'motor-sensory amnesia' , with greater length, rather then compression and greater resilience, allowing you to bear stress without breaking. This new information will also allow your body to perform with reduced effort, reduced pain and improved range of motion.
My Values
My first consideration is always the health and well being of the client. I will continually strive to improve my knowledge and professional skills. I will respect the client’s physical and emotional state and will not abuse clients through actions, words or silence, nor take advantage of the therapeutic relationship. I acknowledge the inherent worth and individuality of each person and therefore will not unjustly discriminate against clients and colleagues. I will encourage and educate the client in the development of a health enhancing lifestyle. When it is necessary in the interest of the client’s health and well being, I will suggest that they seek an alternate source of medical care.
My Vision
To become recognized for excellence in massage therapy throughout Guelph and the surrounding area by improving the quality of life of my patients by providing them with personal and comprehensive treatment.
My Study and Practice
I graduated from the Shiatsu Academy of Tokyo (Toronto) in 2001 after completing their 2200 hour training program. I hold a diploma in Shiatsu therapy. From 2001 to 2003 I was the Assistant Director and Student Clinic Director for the Shiatsu Academy where I also taught First year Shiatsu and ran the Second year Shiatsu practice classes. I was the Chairman of the Shiatsu Diffusion Society for 2003/04.
I decided to move to Guelph and open my own clinic after the birth of my daughter in 2003. I have offered classes through Rediscover Learning Centre on Shiatsu for Neck and Shoulders Pain and Shiatsu for Low Back Pain. I have lectured for Atlas Yoga Studio at Wilfred Laurier University on Myofascial Anatomy and taught the Anatomy portion of their Yoga Teacher Training program. I have also volunteered my services with the Hillside Music Festival and lead a workshop on Shiatsu in their Healing Arts tent.
In 2005 I went back to school at Canadian Therapeutic College for their Massage Therapy program. I graduated in 2006 with an Honours diploma in Massage Therapy. Having passed all provincial ministry exams with the College of Massage Therapy of Ontario I now hold the title of Registered Massage Therapist.
My continued study includes courses and texts on Structural Integration, osteopathic techniques, Esalen Massage, CranioSacral Therapy, myofascial anatomy and the chakra and meridian systems.
